Eight Czech fans face jail time for the racist chants towards Wayne Simmonds. About two weeks ago, Simmonds received racist chants from a Czech Republic crowd.
According to iDNES.cz, eight Chomutov fans were arrested and "charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and defamation of nation, race and other ethnic groups." Those fans face a hearing January 9th, 2013 and could be to sentenced to a max of three years in prison.
Via Puck Daddy: "The Czech site reports that the rowdy fans calls themselves the "Black Commandos", attending games in a black hooded sweatshirt and scarf, imbibing a considerable amount of booze before games. (One of the accused fans, Radek Pribyl, said he had 10 beers and two shots but was only "mildly drunk" because he's "trained" for that level of consumption.)
Some of the fans claim they joined the "monkey" chants but didn't start them; others claim they didn't join them at all."
Here's an earlier comment from our YouTube Channel from a Chomutov resident: "I'm from Chomutov and I have to say that i'm disgusted of such behaviour. The racist insutls were taunted only by group of 20-30 nazi pussies, which are causing problems almost every game. Rest of CV fans really regret of this situation and we showed our disagreement immediately after the taunts. Wayne is a really good player and I'm glad that i can see his great ice-hockey skills in Czech Republic! (sorry for my bad English)"
Simmonds left the team Tuesday citing "family reasons."
The guy who threw the banana at Wayne Simmonds last season was only fined $200...
Let's hope a more severe punishment than that's handed down this time in Chomutov District Court.
