According to The Fourth Period, the Flyers will buyout forward Danny Briere this offseason. Briere said today he's pretty sure Philadelphia is going to buy him out, but he wants to stay.
Briere was expected to be bought out this summer anyway. Buyouts start 24 hours after the conclusion of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final and end at 5:00 PM June 30th. A Briere buyout saves $6.5 million in cap space for the Flyers.
Briere scored six goals and had ten assists in 34 games this season. He scored 124 goals and had 283 points in 364 games with the orange and black. Mr. Playoffs had 37 goals and 72 points in 68 playoff games with the Flyers.
During the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Briere broke the Flyers' postseason record for points with 30. His 12 points in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final was one shy of Wayne Gretzky's record 13. It was the highest output since Mario Lemieux in 1992. Briere was a NHL All Star in 2011.
