The Flyers have discussed a Kevin Shattenkirk trade with the Blues over the past few weeks according to CSN New England’s Joe Haggerty.
Per a league source, there have been discussions over the past few weeks between the Blues and both the Rangers and Flyers about Shattenkirk, and there’s a fair chance he could be on the move this summer. There is no indication that the Bruins are in on Shattenkirk, but they certainly should be if they aren’t already.
Shattenkirk (26), a defenseman, piled up 44 points (8 G, 36 A) in only 56 games with St. Louis last season.
The American Olympian missed 25 games with an abdomen injury in 2014-2015.
St. Louis Today’s Jeremy Rutherford pins the Flyers as probable trade partners as well:
Now, the Blues have put Shattenkirk in the mix, at least gauging interest in what the All-Star could bring, according to league sources and media reports that have cited Edmonton, Columbus and Philadelphia as possible partners.
After dealing TJ Oshie to Washington, who knows if the Blues are looking to re-tool some more. The trade only saved STL about half a million in cap space ($9.12 million currently) and RFA Vladimir Tarasenko (73 points, 23 years old) still needs to get paid.
St. Louis has franchise defenseman Alex Pietrangelo locked up for $6.5 million till 2020 and 31 year old Jay Bouwmeester ($5.4 million) signed through 2019.
Kevin Shattenkirk has a good cap hit ($4.25 million) till the summer of 2018 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
The Flyers currently have $4.46 million in cap space, and I think any trade starts with the rights to restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto who might head to arbitration.
