Kotkaniemi is a very smart player, who reads the play exceptionally well. He is not the fastest skater but is a good skater with a powerful stride. Has a really good shot. He is also a really good playmaker. He is just as impressive defensively as he is offensively. Works extremely hard all over the ice.
NHL comparison: Ryan O’Reilly
Noah Dobson spectacular skating and his great passing ability makes him one of the best defensemen of the draft. Dobson reads the ice well and knows when he should skate with the puck and when he should pass it. Dobson also possesses a heavy slapshot that he uses frequently. He is very strong defensively aswell, uses his size very well. All in all a defenseman that can do it all.
NHL comparison: Alex Pietrangelo
Farabee is a two-way forward with excellent skating and high top speed. His stickhandling is very good and when he combines his speed with the stickhandling he is a legitimate threat to any defense. Joel reads the ice very well with and without the puck and is a great playmaker. As offensively gifted Farabee is he is also very good in his defensive zone. Gives it all every shift.
NHL comparison: Mikael Granlund
Possibly the best skater in the entire draft. Is very dynamic offensively, a great passer and he posesses a heavy shot. High hockey IQ. Has all the tools to become a point producing defenseman in the NHL. He is a smaller guy but is still good in his own end. Hughes reads the play extremely well in all three zones.
NHL comparison: Ryan Ellis
Oliver Wahlstrom is a natural goalscorer. His shot is already at a very high level and it’s no surprise he likes to use it as often as he can. Wahlstrom is also a very good skater with high top speed and acceleration. He likes to switch up the pace to fool defenders and combining that with his great stickhandling skills and shot he is always a threat when on the ice. Needs to improve defensively.
NHL comparison: Max Pacioretty
Brady is a good skater who just like his brother plays a hard nosed game. Tkachuk uses his size to create space and when he does he reads the ice very well to find his teammates or to use his great shot. Works extremely hard all over the ice and is good in his own zone. Loves the physical game. Has all the tools to become a NHL player, especially if he works on his acceleration.
NHL comparison: Matthew Tkachuk
Boqvist is a offensive minded defenseman with outstanding skating ability. He is very fast and has impressive acceleration. Boqvist is a really good passer who reads the play extremely well. Loves to join the rush. Has a really good shot, both his wrist shot and slap shot are really accurate and heavy. Has very high hockey IQ and plays with alot of poise. Boqvist is a smaller guy but is not afraid to get physical in the defensive zone. Is very good at breaking up plays with his stick.
NHL comparison: John Klingberg
Zadina is a natural scoring threat. He reads the ice extremely well and pretty much always positions himself in a spot where he will be open to use his lethal shot. Loves to shoot from pretty much anywhere. Zadina is a good skater but will need to work on his acceleration. He is a threat whenever he is on the ice. Is a good stickhandler and doesnt shy away from physical play. Is a good passer. Works extremely hard in all three zones and is responsible in the defensive end.
NHL comparison: Patrik Laine
Svechnikov is an incredible skater with high top speed and acceleration. He is very strong on the puck and uses his size and skill to defeat defenders with ease. The Russian winger posesses elite level shooting ability. He has a shooting arsenal with different type of ways he can beat the goalie. To top it all off he has amazing stick handling skills. Svechnikov is very smart and altho he is a pure sniper he is also a very good playmaker. High hockey IQ. Needs to improve in the defensive zone.
NHL comparison: Vladimir Tarasenko
The consensous number one pick by all the scouts in the NHL draft and rightfully so. Rasmus Dahlin is a complete package. He is an incredible skater, he flies past opponents with little effort. He has very high hockey IQ, he reads the ice exceptionally well and is a very good passer. His shot is very good already, he has a very strong and accurate slapshot. Dahlins stickhandling ability is elite and he loves to join the rush. He is responsible in his own end, he uses his skating ability very well in all three zones. Doesnt shy away from board battles and physical play. Generational talent.
NHL comparison: A mix between Erik Karlsson and Niklas Lidström
Keep in mind that the NHL comparisons are only similarities. It doesn’t mean that prospect will become as good as his NHL comparison.
