If there’s at least one Flyer happy with the Dave Hakstol hiring, it’s former Fighting Sioux Chris VandeVelde.
VandeVelde (28) played under Hakstol for four seasons from 2006-2010, putting up at least 15 goals and 32 points in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. His college career culminated averaging almost a point per game in 2010, with 16 goals and 25 assists (41 points) in 42 games.
The 2015 Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Trophy winner had a career year in 2015, putting up nine goals and six assists (15 PTS) in 72 games mostly on the fourth line.
Chris VandeVelde, an unrestricted free agent, would be more than happy to re-sign in Phillly:
“I already wanted to go back to Philly, Hakstol being there makes it even more so.”
VandeVelde also said Flyers fans should be excited for the fresh start, and Hakstol is a good leader and no nonsense type of guy.
