Erik Gustafsson eyeing NHL return

Omsk Avangard defenseman Erik Gustafsson (26), who the Flyers still own the rights to, is banking on a return to the National Hockey League for next season according to the Swedish website Sundsvalls Tidning.

Gustafsson had six goals and 16 assists (22 PTS) in 56 regular season games last season in the KHL.

The Gus bus was jerked around in the lineup during the 2014 Flyers season under Craig Berube, but managed two goals and eight assists (10 PTS) in 31 games. Gustafsson was infamously scratched for Hal Gill in Game 5 of the 2014 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Rangers, but scored the game winning goal of Game 6 in all alone on Henrik Lundqivst.

Ron Hextall needs to somehow clear contracts on the defensive end this summer, with seven defenseman under contract including restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto.
