Erik Gustafsson staying in Europe

With the huge glut of defensemen in Philadelphia at the moment, it looks like Erik Gustafsson (26) will remain overseas.

Avangard Omsk president Vladimir Shalaev said Gustafsson will leave the team, but stay in Europe next season.

Gus had 22 points (6 G, 16 A) in 56 games with Avangard last year.

Ron Hextall said there wasn’t any room on the Flyers with the signing of KHL defenseman Evgeni Medvedev two days ago.

There wasn’t any room without Medvedev, Hextall needs to trade some contracts on the back end. Including restricted free agent Michael Del Zotto, Philadelphia has nine defensemen with deals.
