Flyers 5, Devils 3 post-game: Flyers are streaking!

Updated: January 13, 2018 at 11:59 pm by Johan Gartner

The Flyers won three straight games before heading into their bye week and tonight they were looking to continue their winning streak in Newark against the Devils.

Tonight was the first matchup between Nico Hischier and Nolan Patrick. Shayne Gostisbehere missed the game because of illness, while Brian Elliott was back in goal after resting against the Sabres last Sunday.

First period

Flyers didnt get off to a great start in the period and the Devils took control pretty quickly. After a defensive breakdown, Nico Hischier assisted on Jesper Bratt who beat Elliott in close. Devils were the much better team in the first period, and Flyers struggled to keep up with their speed and took a couple of penalties which didnt help.

Sean Couturier would tie it up again when he scored on a rebound infront of Schneider.

Second period

The second period would be a completely different story for the Orange and black. Palmieri scored for the Devils on the powerplay just a minute into the period but after that it was all Flyers.

Simmonds and Couturier both scored on the powerplay to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead heading into the third on two spectacular goals.

Third period

The Flyers continued creating chances to start the third and they broke through twice more. Once on a Konecny breakaway where he scored on his own rebound.

The other goal was scored by Raffl on a beautiful passing play by Filppula and Voracek.
