It finally happened!

The Philadelphia Flyers won a hockey game! Flyers were looking to break out of the 10 game losing streak tonight against Johnny Gaudreau and the Calgary Flames and they managed to do so after some secondary scoring from players like Scott Laughton, Michael Raffl and Valteri Filppula.

Brian Elliott gave up a bad rebound on the first Flames goal but was spectacular in goal after that. Flyers new second line with Raffl,Filppula and Voracek had a great game, especially Raffl & Voracek who were the two best Flyers forwards in the game.

The losing streak is finally broken and winning has never felt so good.

First period

Flyers did not play well in the first. The passing was sloppy and they were pushed pretty hard by the Flames. Flames finally broke through when Troy Brouwer scored on a bad rebound from Elliott. If not for Elliott the Flames could have scored a couple of more goals in the first.

It didnt take long for Filppula to tie it all back up again just before the period ended when he and Raffl both pounced on a rebound in front of Mike Smith.

Second period

Flames kept pressuring the Flyers in the second period outshooting them and outchancing them by far. Brian Elliott was great and the Flyers finally had some luck with them and they scored three goals in 1:11. Philadelphia never really had alot of offensive zone pressure throughout the period but when they did get the chance they capitalized.

Sean Monahan managed to reduce the three goal lead late in the second on a beautiful snipe that beat Elliott glove side.

Third period

Flyers got a huge goal from Scott Laughton in the beginning of the third period increasing the lead to 3 goals.

The third period was also Flyers best period, they shutdown the Flames pretty well and they never really got close to getting back into the game. They had a couple of chances but Elliott was ready for all of them.

Travis Hamonic got ejected from the game after a questionable hit to the head on Dale Weise who left the game but he did return.

Dave Hakstol decided to shorten the bench in the third to secure the win. Travis Konecny didnt get to play at all in the third and Nolan Patrick only recieved powerplay time. On the back end Travis Sanehim only had 18 seconds of ice time in the last period.

It wasnt pretty at times but Flyers finally had some bounces go their way and a win is a win.

Stars of the game

First star

Brian Elliott Was pretty much perfect all night after the bad rebound on the Brouwer goal. Cool, calm, collected.

Second star

Jakub Voracek Jake assisted on 3 out of the 5 Flyers goals and was dominant along the boards tonight with his new linemates. A typical Voracek game.

Third star – Sam Bennett was all over the ice tonight creating alot of chances for the Flames. Had one assist but could have had a couple more points if Elliott wasnt on his game.

Flyers play Edmonton Oilers 9:30PM on Wednesday.
