Chris Porter and Wayne Simmonds both scored for the Philadelphia Flyers, but it wasn’t enough, as the team suffered their second straight preseason loss Wednesday, dropping a 4-2 decision to the New Jersey Devils at the Wells Fargo Center.
Tuomo Ruttu, Adam Henrique and Travis Zajac (2) scored for the Devils, who battled back from a 2-1 first-period deficit.
Michal Neuvirth stopped 15 of 18 shots in goal, before being replaced at the start of the third period by Jason LaBarbera, who stopped all eight shots he faced.
Keith Kinkaid stopped 27 of 29 shots in the Devils’ crease.
The Flyers outshot the Devils 29-27 on the night, but now fall to 3-2-1 in the 2015 NHL preseason.
Sean Couturier and Michael Raffl were both out of the lineup with upper-body injuries.
Key Stats/ Takeaways:
- Brayden Schenn saw his four-game point streak come to a close. He finished a minus-2 and managed just two shots on goal
- Michael Del Zotto assisted on both of the Flyers’ goals and logged 20:48 of ice time
- Wayne Simmonds looks ready for the regular season after another strong showing Wednesday. He scored for the second straight game and dished out two hits. Both of his goals have come on the power play
- Claude Giroux assisted on Simmonds’ power-play tally, but managed just one shot on goal all night. He’s yet to find twine in the 2015 preseason
