Ron Hextall has shown interest in another Czech player for the draft, goalie Daniel Vladar.
Vladar enjoyed his interview with the Flyers, which was one of 23 with NHL teams yesterday.
“I think it was really good. I was a big fan when [Jaromir] Jagr was there because he was my idol since I was growing up. That was my favorite team.
I will be happy if they drafted me.”
Darth Vladar trails only Ilya Samsonov, who’s the only projected first round pick among goalies, in NHL Central Scouting’s international goaltenders board. Expect him to go in the second round most likely.
The Flyers also showed interest in Slovak goalie Matej Tomek, who could be gone by the end of the third round.
After being taken with the 7th overall pick in the USHL draft by the Chicago Steel, Vladar will make the jump from the Czech Republic to the United States for next season.
Daniel Vladar hails from the same town as Jagr and Jakub Voracek, Kladno.
This year with the HC Kladno U20 team, Daniel Vladar had a .926 SV% and a 2.78 GAA in 29 games. In his cup of coffee with the big club (HC Kladno), he put up a .933 SV% and a 1.97 GAA in eight games.
With seven picks in the top 100 of this NHL Draft, the Flyers will have ample opportunities to snag a goalie.
