Despite an initial report saying he’d be bought out, the buyout window has closed and Sam Gagner is still here.
Gagner (25) had 41 points (15 G, 26 A) in 81 games games with the Coyotes last season.
The cap hit will be $3.2 million for this year.
If Sam Gagner puts in a good season, the Flyers can flip him for an asset(s) at the deadline or keep him. If not, the deal ends after this season so no harm.
Gagner has apparently had issues with the defensive side of his game, but that should be better masked if he’s playing wing.
Philly’s after regulation woes might be less with his shootout prowess as well.
One side benefit of Gagner is he’s pretty good at the shootout. 19 for 62 in his career. That’s 31%. Giroux is 18 for 52. Which is 35%

Sam Gagner: “I didn’t sleep much in the [last 72 hours]. You are worrying where you are going to be.”
2013: Mase at dead-end. PHI acquires him. 2014: MDZ at dead-end. PHI signs him. 2015: Teams give up on Gagner. PHI gets him All ≥ 25 at time
