Ron Hextall told reporters during the first day of development camp that discussions have started on Jakub Voracek’s new deal.
That same Tuesday, star right winger Vladimir Tarasenko (23) inked a massive eight year $60 million ($7.5 million AAV) extension with St. Louis.
Tarasenko had a breakout season with the Blues after a 43 point campaign the year before: 77 GP, 37 G, 36 A, 73 PTS, 55.2 SAT%
Voracek, only two years older, has done much more than Tarasenko to earn a cap hit like $7.5 million.
- 2012-2013: 48 GP, 22 G, 24 A, 46 PTS, 53.5 SAT%
- 2013-2014: 82 GP, 23 G, 39 A, 62 PTS, 54.8 SAT%
- 2014-2015: 82 GP, 22 G, 59 A, 81 PTS, 53.6 SAT%
Jakub Voracek has been operating on a cap friendly four year $17 million ($4.25 million AAV) since 2012, in the Holmgren era.
Jake the snake is one of six right wingers 25 or younger since the lockout to put up at least 81 points in a season. (Perry, Cheechoo, Kane, Gaborik, Kessel)
Voracek is the only right winger 25 or younger since 1999 to put up at least 59 assists in a season. (Kane – 58 in 2010, Hemsky – 58 in 2006)
If I could predict what his deal will look like, I’d say it’s the same as the captain with a $8.275 million cap hit. It’s looking like he’ll definitely receive in excess of $8 million.
