The Flyers announced they have signed defenseman Yegor Zamula to an entry-level contract and assigned him to the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL.
The undrafted free agent was invited to Flyers’ rookie and main training camp on an amateur try-out and impressed in the Rookie Game and two NHL preseason contests.
The 18-year-old logged 18:35 of ice time in the Flyers’ 3-1 win vs. the Islanders on Sept. 17 and played 14:47 in a 6-4 win over the Rangers at MSG on Sept. 19.
In his debut season in the WHL, Zamula split time between the Regina Pats and Hitmen, finishing with two goals and 18 points in 69 games.
The 6’3″, 160 lbs blueliner is regarded as a reliable and responsible two-way defender who isn’t afraid to jump into the attack and join the rush.
Zamula looked very poised as an 18-year-old in a camp full of veterans. He deserves an opportunity and it’s nice to see the Flyers giving him a shot.
