The Flyers have signed 7th overall draft pick Ivan Provorov to an entry level contract.
This deal got done very early, as Travis Sanheim and Samuel Morin signed their first deals in the second and third weeks of September of their draft years.
It’s a standard $925,000 for three years, including bonuses.
Provorov had 61 points (15 G, 46 A) in 60 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.
The 18 year old defenseman will get a good look in training camp come September.
Flyers scout Todd Hearty: “I don’t like to make bold statements, but I think he could come in and be one of the better defenseman on the team in training camp. They are going to see this guy and go ‘whoa’.”
Here’s a quick refresher on the skills of the Russian: An offensively gifted defenceman who can direct the game’s pace when the puck is on his stick. Provorov is a quick and agile skater with an accurate release on his shot, which he can get off anywhere below the blue line; creates many chances on the power play and can even create offense during the penalty kill. Is an adroit and creative passer who knows how to use his teammates well. All-in-all, a complete defenceman who knows how goals are scored and executes accordingly.
