Game Preview: Flyers @ Panthers (Game 37)

Updated: December 28, 2017 at 6:06 pm by Johan Gartner

The Flyers are returning from the Christmas break hoping to get back into the win column tonight against the Panthers.

Alex Lyon has been sent back to the Phantoms since Michal Neuvirth has recovered from his injury. Brian Elliott is expected to get the start in goal.

The Flyers play the Eastern Conference nine times in the next 10 games, so they need to get a new streak going.

Philadelphia: Flyers Line Combinations

Dave Hakstol mixed the lines up before the Blue Jackets game and while they lost in the shootout, you could tell the lines were clicking. Konecny is expected to play on the first line with Giroux and Couturier.

I personally hope Hakstol keeps the Provorov and Gostisbehere pairing together since they were quite dominant in the last game.

Giroux – Couturier – Konecny

Raffl – Patrick – Voracek

Weise – Filppula – Simmonds

Lehterä – Laughton – Leier

Provorov – Gostisbehere

MacDonald – Hägg

Sanheim – Gudas

Elliott

Florida: Panthers Line Combinations

The Panthers have won their last three games and their star players are starting to heat up. Florida’s top six is really good and the Couturier vs Barkov matchup will be crucial. The Flyers should win the bottom-six matchup.

Huberdeau – Barkov – Bjugstad

Dadonov – Trochek – Malgin

McGinn – McCann – Brickley

Haley – MacKenzie – Sceviour

Yandle – Ekblad

Matheson – Pysyk

Weegar – Petrovic

THREE STORYLINES TO WATCH

The Flyers are looking to get a new win streak going. They play a ton of Eastern Conference teams in their next 15 games or so and they will climb if they manage to get a streak going. This next month is crucial if the Flyers want to make the playoffs.

Claude Giroux is back! The captain has looked like the Giroux we all know and love this season after a couple of injury plagued years. He has 14 points in his last nine games and has looked really good since he was put on the wing.

Florida has two really good lines, but their bottom six is pretty bad and the Flyers need to capitalize on having better forward depth than the Panthers. Look for both teams to try and get their top guys out there against the third and fourth lines of the other team.
