The 2018 World Junior Championships are underway in Buffalo and Philadelphia Flyers’ fans should be paying close attention.

While most of the focus is on elite goaltending prospect Carter Hart for Team Canada, German Rubtsov is in action for Team Russia. The 19-year-old sniper was selected 22nd overall by the Flyers in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Rubtsov has put up five goals and 14 points in 14 games with Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL this season and is impressing at the World Juniors.

He picked up two assists in the opening game of the tournament and had a strong showing against Belarus on Thursday. Rubtsov scored his first goal of the World Juniors during the opening period of the victory.

Rubtsov worked the give-and-go to perfection, exhibiting some great situational awareness to execute the play, before showing some tremendous patience taking the puck to the net and outwaiting the goaltender.
