Pending approval by the board of governors, the National Hockey League has switched up it’s rules for after regulation.
For those asking, no 4-on-4 OT at all. Right to 3-on-3. 5 minutes sudden death. No goal, it goes to shootout.

With less people on the ice, it will hopefully lead to more goals in 2015-2016.
Bob McKenzie added the NHLPA was firmly against the AHL’s system for last season (four minutes of 4 on 4 and three minutes of 3 on 3) so the NHL said three on three for five or no change at all.
A lethal trio of Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek, and Mark Streit should lead to more overtime wins and less shootouts next seasons, but Dave Hakstol needs to keep some of the slower players glued to the bench in extra time.
