There’s no salary cap at the World Cup.

USA Hockey announced their management staff for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey this afternoon.

Kings GM Dean Lombardi was named the general manager with Flyers president Paul Holmgren as his right hand man. Flames president of hockey operations Brian Burke will be the senior advisor to the two. Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of USA Hockey, receives the nod for director of hockey operations.

Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey: “We’re thrilled to have Dean at the helm of managing our World Cup team. He’s been an invaluable part of our men’s national team advisory group and obviously done a remarkable job in building the Kings. In addition, having the experience of Paul Holmgren, Brian Burke and Jim Johannson gives us an exceptional management team and a group we’re confident will put together a team that our country will be proud of.”

The NHL and NHLPA will jointly name the management teams of the North American Youngstars and Team Europe.

Paul Holmgren was an assistant coach with the 1996 USA team that upset Canada during the World Cup.
