Preview: Flyers at Devils (Game 51)

Updated: February 1, 2018 at 6:44 pm by Brady Trettenero

Alex Lyon will make his first NHL start in goal, as the Flyers look to snap a two-game losing streak Thursday evening at Prudential Center in New jersey.

Philadelphia is playing in the second half of a back-to-back, falling 5-3 to the Washington Capitals on the road Wednesday evening.

The Flyers are currently sitting fourth in the Metropolitan Division with 56 points and hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

This will be the third time in less than four weeks that the Flyers and Devils are squaring off. The Flyers defeated the Devils 5-3 at Prudential Center on Jan. 13 and 3-1 at Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 20.

Keith Kinkaid is expected to start in goal for the Devils, who ended a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win in Buffalo on Tuesday.

The Flyers are going with the same lines they iced in the loss to the Capitals, except for one minor change. Taylor Leier is entering the lineup in place of Tyrell Goulbourne.

Nolan Patrick impressed in his promoted role on the second line, notching a goal and an assist. He combined for a great goal with Wayne Simmonds and will look to build on that performance Thursday.

With Brian Elliott place on IR, goaltending is once again a pressing issue. The team is giving Lyon his first NHL start after he made a brief relief appearance for Michal Neuvirth on Wednesday. The 25-year-old has been fairly average with the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season, posting a .910 save percentage through 24 appearances.
