The Flyers travelled to Allentown and the PPL Center for play their annual preseason game at the home of their AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley Phantoms. For the fourth time this preseason, they are playing the Islanders.

Michal Neuvirth was set to play tonight’s game but got injured at the morning skate.

First Period

Quite a slow start to the game but the Flyers created a couple of chances on their first powerplay of the night. Voracek had a decent shot attempt and Twarynski had a nice redirection opportunity.

The Flyers would get another shot on the powerplay after Bailey retaliated on a Leier hit and it didn’t take long before Gostisbehere scored his third goal of the preseason on a slapshot from the blueline. Voracek & Weal assisted on the goal.

Carter Hart didnt get alot of action in the first period but he looked really calm and strong whenever the Islanders tested him.

Flyers dominated the play in the first and left for intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Second Period

Early in the second period the Flyers had to kill off a 3-on-5 and they did it in a flawless matter. Carter Hart made two big saves on heavy one-timers from Pulock.

Flyers continued their sloppy play to start the second and Carter Hart had to make a couple of hard saves to keep the Flyers in the lead.

Flyers didn’t have a shot on goal in the first 10 minutes of the period and were struggling to get anything going offensively.

Islanders tied the game up with 4 minutes left of the period when Jan Kovar scored on his own rebound to beat Stolarz up close.

Just a minute later the Flyers would regain the lead when Vorobyev sprung Konecny with an aerial pass and Konecny beat Lehner five-hole. Friedman also got an assist on the goal.

Third Period & Overtime

Flyers failed to clear the puck and the Islanders pounced on the puck to tie it all up early in the third period.

Gostisbehere left the game on precautionary reasons in the third period.

The remainder of the third period was a hard checked game with chances for both clubs. Tk had a great chance on a 2-on-1 but Lehner made a good save.

Stolarz was a bit shaky on the first goal but made a few nice saves to keep the score tied to end the third.

Islanders ended up winning tonight’s game when Pulock scored on a one-timer just a minute into the overtime. It was a 4-on-3 powerplay goal.

Quick thoughts

I wonder what more Mikhail Vorobyev has to do to make the team out of camp. He has been nothing but spectacular so far in the preseason and he assisted on Konecny’s goal tonight as well with a nice aerial pass. He continues to be great on the PK, and he continues his very strong two-way play. Impressive passer as well.

Carter Hart will most likely start the season with the Phantoms but he has been nothing but impressive. Tonight he saved 9 out of 9 shots and looked cool calm and collected before it was Stolarz turn to play.

Carsen Twarynski has impressed me this camp. He had a great last season in the WHL before turning pro and is definitely showing the Flyers brass that he is close to being NHL ready.

Phil Myers strong play has continued throughout the camp and I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t get a roster spot. Stepped up in ice time when Gostisbehere left the game as well.

Flyers next preseason game is on Monday at 7:00PM ET against the Bruins.
