Surviving The Storm

After suffering tough back-to-back losses, the Flyers got back on track on Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, NC.

The Flyers accomplished a rare feat: they scored in the first period. Shayne Gostisbehere fired a shot on net that found its way by Canes goalie Cam Ward to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead with 2:03 remaining in the period. They would head into the 1st intermission with a lead for the first time this season.
61 seconds into the second period, Justin Faulk snapped a shot by Neuvirth to even the scoring. Neuvirth argued that Lee Stempniak interfered with him on the goal but replay revealed that Ivan Provorov’s stick hit Neuvirth while pushing Stempniak out of Neuvirth’s way.
A few minutes later, Radko Gudas put the Flyers back out in front with a shot from the point, similar to Gostisbehere’s goal.

Then things turned scary for Philadelphia.

Jeff Skinner tied up the game with a goal with 9:47 left in the 2nd. Less than two minutes after the tying score, Ivan Provorov mishandled the puck and turned it over to Viktor Stalberg. Stalberg made the rookie defenseman pay with a breakaway goal, giving Carolina a 3-2 lead.
With 2:46 remaining in the second, Simmonds fed a nice pass to Claude Giroux in front of the net, who slapped a one timer to knot the game at 3-3 going into the locker room.
In the third, while on the penalty kill, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare got a hold of the puck on the near boards at center ice and fed a pass to Brandon Manning, who was storming towards Carolina’s side of the ice. He took the puck and sniped it by Ward to give the Flyers the 4-3 lead. Neuvirth held up the rest of the way and the Flyers ended their brutal string of games with a road win.
The Flyers get a couple days to rest before returning home to host the Red Wings on Wednesday night, Nov. 2 at 8pm
