The Flyers have been doing their due diligence with options at 7th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft. Philly is one of four teams who have talked with Czech center Pavel Zacha the most.
Here’s a rough translation from a Q & A with Zacha on the Czech website idnez.cz:
Do you know who will choose you? And where you would like to be headed? Anywhere. The last time I talked a lot with Toronto (#4), New Jersey (#6), Philadelphia (#7), and Colorado (#10). These teams would fit me, they’re reshaping their rosters, betting on young people. The most important thing for me is to get a chance and be trusted.
Opinions on Pavel Zacha vary, as he’s as high as #4 with Hockey Prospect and as low as #24 with TSN.
Zacha played professionally as a 16 year old with Bili Tygri Liberec, who’s in the top hockey league of the Czech Republic.
After making the jump to North America, he helped pick up on English by watching and reciting subtitled movies such as Dumb and Dumber.
Pavel Zacha had 34 points (16 G, 18 A) in 37 games with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL this season.
Elite Prospects: Pavel Zacha is an offensively dynamic center with the size, speed, and skill to make a significant impact on the game. He can play physical, but is at his best when using his high-end offensive abilities, such as his shot, stickhandling, and footspeed, to generate numbers in the opposition’s end of the ice. All-in-all, Zacha is a lethal weapon that can be depended upon to create, and finish, dangerous scoring chances whenever he is on the ice.
Zacha wants to be the first Czech selected in the top 10 since Jakub Voracek (2007).
I wouldn’t take him if players like Ivan Provorov or Mathew Barzal are on the board, but I trust the Flyers to continue making strong selections in the first round.
